Colossians 3:2 (ESV) “Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth.
Peter was a fisherman, and the fishermen of the first century were considered the backbone of their communities around the Sea of Galilee. They were thought of as fearless by many because they faced the storms that often plagued the Sea of Galilee. The storms would come up so fast the men couldn’t get their boats off the sea in time. Boats would capsize and lives would be lost. But Peter was a man with all the dreams and struggles of most men in the first century. He had a business to run to support his family.
The amazing thing? Peter left it all. Dropped everything: boats, nets, family. Everything that had to do with his trade–the focus of his time and energy–he left. When Jesus called to Peter in Luke 5:11 to follow Him and he would make him a fisher of men, Peter left everything and followed Him. Peter’s focus changed from his own pursuits, his own interests and obeyed the call of Jesus. His focus changed and it changed his entire life from that moment forward.
