Psalm 119:105 “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Have you ever been in a real maze? Teachers will sometimes give their students a maze to solve. They can be fun, make the child concentrate, and can help their problem solving skills. The difference is you can look at the beginning, plan a route, and you can see where the maze ends. With a real maze, you can’t see anything but what’s in front of you. You have several ways you can go but no clue which is the best route to get you where you want to go.
That’s life. You can only see what’s in front of you. You want to find the best path to get you where the end is, but how can you know. With a maze, you can’t. You have to be a good at guessing or lucky, or it you end up going around in circles.
David could have felt like he was in a maze, one filled with problems at every turn. Every day he woke to new troubles–where to find shelter and food, always looking over his shoulder to see if Saul was catching up to him. But David found direction from the Lord. So can we. We can’t see the direction our lives should take, but God does. He sees our lives from womb to tomb, and He will lead us. We just have to be willing to follow. The end result will be a straight path to a future with Him.
