I Thessalonians 5:4 (NASB) “But you brethren are not in darkness that the day [day of the Lord] would overtake you like a thief.”
“That day” is also know as the “tribulation period” or “Jacob’s trouble” and the second coming of Jesus Christ. This verse tells us plainly that those who are taking notice will be able to see this period of time drawing near. It will be obvious to those watching.
The budding of the fig tree (Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21) is obvious. It is talking about Israel becoming a nation again. This happened 70 years ago. The generation that sees this will not pass away till all things take place (Luke 21:32). That generation is us.
We’ve seen Israel become a nation again. We’ve seen it flourish into the eighth leading nation in the world in that short time–against all odds. We’ve seen it become a “bone of contention” for the nations surrounding it, making it a target of hatred and envy.
I Thessalonians 5:5-6 “For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night. So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.”
Matthew 26:41 “Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
