Roy’s Blog: “The First Commandment”

Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”

Something terrible has happened–2 Timothy 3:3. (KJV) People have become lovers of self. They are without natural affection. They lust, but they have no godly love for others.

The older I get the more things seem to change and I am reminded of Paul’s statement. “In the last days, perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves…without natural affection.” (2 Timothy 3:1,2a,3a)

The lack of natural affection is obvious in our society today. You can’t miss it. It’s everywhere. Abortion-over 1 million per year in America. It has become the remedy for those who can’t be bothered by the presence of a baby. They don’t want to hamper their lifestyle. There is no natural affection for their own child. Many children in our society raise themselves because their parents have no nurturing instincts. How many babies have been left in cars for hours. Forgotten? You may ask how that could possible happen. How can a parent forget their child for hours? Because, their thought are on themselves, their needs. That nurturing instinct isn’t there.

Many schools now send sack dinners home with children because they know that the child will not be fed otherwise. Many mothers have no natural nurturing of their own children. The failure of our culture stems from the absence of affection for God. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. If you do this, the natural love you should have for others will be there.
