Judges 7:7 (NASB) The Lord said to Gideon, “I will deliver you with the 300 men who lapped and will give you the Midianites into your hands…”
Gideon, like many of us, had doubts. We just can’t seem to let go of our weaknesses and trust in the power of God. Gideon faced a huge army of Midianites- 135,000 fighting men against Gideon’s army of 32,000. Gideon figured they would lose. The odds were just too great against them. God had other plans. Did He call on other groups to help Gideon? No. He had Gideon narrow down his army. Using God’s instructions, Gideon’s army was now 300 men. Why? Because now there would be no doubt that the victory was from the Lord.
That night Gideon gave each man a trumpet and a torch concealed in a pottery jar. At his signal, they blew the trumpets, broke the jars to reveal the torches, and shouted, “A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!” Judges 7:20
God caused the enemy to panic and turn on each other. Gideon called out reinforcements and they destroyed them. Even though Gideon was slow to believe, once convinced of God’s power, he obeyed.
God can accomplish great things through us if we forget our weaknesses and follow His guidance.
(I thought this was an appropriate topic for my 300th blog.)
