Psalm 37:4 “Seek your happiness in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desire.”
One of the universal questions of life is, “How in the world can I be happy?” Solomon asked a similar question many years ago. “If a man doesn’t find contentment, what’s the use?” What do all these things matter if I don’t enjoy my life?
The bottom line is that money, power, achievement, pleasure, success, education–none of these things bring happiness. If they did, you wouldn’t have the high rate of drug and alcohol use and increasing rate of suicides by the Hollywood elite and high paid sports stars.
Nice things do not bring that utopia of happiness and joy they thought they would have. Instead, they try to numb their thought and feelings. Even many who don’t have wealth or power try to cover their lack of happiness or satisfaction with life with drugs and/or alcohol. You can go to almost any store now and see little old ladies (or men) pushing their cart to the checkout with two or three cases of beer or wine inside.
Young healthy people who should be energetic and filled with happiness are numbing themselves with nicotine, alcohol, marijuana, CBD oils, etc. What is missing from their lives that they feel the need to numb themselves in this manner? God.
Their number one need is a relationship with Jesus Christ. “Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires; God will satisfy them fully.”
Anchored in a relationship with Jesus Christ, you can take whatever life throws at you. You can push past the stresses, disappointments, and heartaches and come out victorious, seizing every moment of this short time on earth with joy and happiness.
