2 Kings 2:11 “As they were going along and talking, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire which separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven.”
This incident with Elijah lies embedded in the minds of the Jewish people because God confirmed Elijah did not die. He would return again. Malachi 4:5 “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.”
To this day, at Passover every year, Jewish families set an extra place at the table or an Elijah’s cup, for the the prophet Elijah in case he shows up.
The Lord is coming. That is the theme and blessed hope of the redeemed. He’s told us what to look for before His coming.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the church today looked forward to the coming of the Lord with and excitement and anticipation that influenced everything they said and did. Hallelujah!
