Psalm 18:2 (NLT) “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold.”
When a massive hurricane rolls across the ocean toward land, bands of storms often go out well ahead of the storm itself. It’s almost as if the storm has arms and reaches out for the land. When one of them hits, the surf rises, the winds roar, and a huge amount of rain can fall in a very short time. Then, the skies will often clear and all will look peaceful again. Many will think it wasn’t such a big deal.
Meanwhile, further out the heart of the storm is still brewing. It keeps churning, growing, moving closer to land.
That is similar to the way Jesus described events as the end of the age approaches. Today, we live in between the bands of the storm. Many continue their lives unconcerned for the coming storm. Today seems fine. But the warning alarm has sounded. The storm is coming. Now is the time to prepare–to go to the only stronghold that can help you withstand the storm.
2 Timothy 4:18 (NASB) “The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
