I Thessalonians 5:16-18,28 “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks, and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ will be with you.”
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day. It is a day to eat too much, be with family, watch football…wait. Wait a minute. That’s not what Thanksgiving is about. All those things are nice, and they’re what we usually do, but Thanksgiving is just that. It’s about giving thanks to God, not just for all the abundance we have, but for everything we have. Life and a future of unimaginable glory.
Our bodies may not be what we would like for them to be here on earth. We might want to change many things about it. But we have a glorious body waiting for us.
There are many changes happening in our world today. Some thing we love, others we dislike. We resist them, run from them. Everything is moving faster. A lot of different things have caused this, technology being just one. Speed of travel and cultural diversity are two others.
I read that King George of England wrote in his dairy on 7/4/1776, “Nothing much happened today.” He didn’t have a clue, because it took months for new to travel across the Atlantic. Today news, good or bad, travels instantaneously across the entire world.
I’m thankful for many of the changes. They can make life here much easier. Many of them I don’t like, because they have moved us away from focusing on God, and have put our focus on ourselves. What we can do, have done. I’m thankful that God forgives me, even when I forget to be thankful to Him.
Jeremiah 17:7-8a “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear…”
Have a Blessed and thankful Thanksgiving.
